Her Life… Her Times
Weep not for me though I am gone, into that gentle night.
Grieve if you will, but not for long, upon my soul’s sweet flight.
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest, there is no need for tears.
For with your love I was so blessed, for all those many years.
There is no pain, I suffer not, and the fear now is all gone.
Put now those things out of your thoughts, as in your memory I live on.
Remember not my fight for breath, remember not the strife.
Please do not dwell upon my death, but celebrate my life. (Anon)
And today, we dwell, not on her death, but on the life of a lady who was a wonderful wife, loving mother, caring daughter and sister, loyal friend, and a true daughter of Zion.
Her story began in England, on October 19, 1960. She was born to Elder and Pastor (Mrs.) Joseph Kayode Ajayi. Olayemi Tinuade was the second child and older daughter in a family of four children.
By virtue of her being the offspring of a career diplomat she had the privilege of having a cross-cultural childhood, spending her early years in such lands as England, Russia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Belgium, Canada, the United States and Nigeria. As a result, she attended a fair number of schools and today her friends can be counted from (amongst others) the Alumni of St. Louis Grammar School, Ibadan to Southover Manor School, Lewes, Sussex. Tinu graduated from the University of Hull, Yorkshire, England where she obtained a B.Sc (HONS.) in Economics. She also attended the City University Business School in London where she earned an MBA, specializing in marketing. Tinu was also an Associate Member of the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
Tinu served her NYSC year with National Oil & Chemical Marketing Co. Limited, Lagos (1984 to 1985) as a Marketing Information Analyst in the Regional Business Department where she was retained afterwards. In July 1985, Tinu joined Lintas Advertising Agency Limited where she developed as an Advertising and Marketing Professional. In June 1989, she relocated briefly to the UK, and worked at ATS World Travel, London.
On her return to Nigeria, she joined Abacus Merchant Bank. However, her passion was not for banking and her exceptional inter-personal skills made her a natural fit for marketing and communications. Thus, she returned to that career path in 1997 when she joined SA & C Advertising. Tinu then left for Promasidor Nigeria Limited in 2001 where as Senior Public Relations Manager, she honed her Public Relations skills. In 2004, she had a brief stint at MTN Nigeria Limited as External Communications Manager. After MTN, Tinu worked as a marketing consultant for a new upstart manufacturing company - Goshen Marble Nigeria Limited. Her invaluable experience was a justified asset to the successful take off the company. Tinu began work in Chevron Nigeria Limited in 2007 as a Coordinator in Policy, Government & Public Affairs, a job which although demanding brought immense fulfillment. During her time at Chevron, she has worked in Corporate Social Responsibilities and Sponsorship, Internal Communications and Events. At the time of her death she was the Coordinator - Corporate Responsibility in the Policy, Government & Public Affairs Department in the Lagos Office of Chevron.
Tinu married her heartthrob, Adelowo in 1998, to whom, she was a wonderful wife. They were best friends, playing, praying and praising God together. To her children Adeolu and Aderoluwa, she was a loving, strict and protective mother. In both she truly exuded peace, joy and love - she was a family oriented woman. In the larger family unit, Tinu was an attractive rallying point.
Tinu was also a fun loving friend, with a marvelous sense of humour. She always loved a good laugh. She also had strong views on respect, especially for authority and elders.
Tinu was very elegant, genteel and polished. As a woman blessed with the spirit of excellence, her organizational skills were second to none – whether at the home front, the church, at work, or in her everyday life. She loved current affairs, travelling, reading, and music. What gave her the greatest joy however, was her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was very active in Church and walked the walk and talk of a true daughter of Zion as she knew that Christ was her ultimate reality. In the years before her wedding, Tinu was a dedicated worker in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ebute-Metta and an active member of Christ the Redeemers Fellowship Universal (CRFU). After her marriage, she joined her husband’s Church, Christ Baptist Church, Gbagada. She was one of the pioneer members that weaned and nurtured the Teenagers’ Ministry ‘Daniel’s Band’ at the Christ Baptist Church, Gbagada. She remained an active member of the Ministry till her call home. It is to the glory of the Lord that this Ministry has blossomed into having a Teenagers’ Church.
Tinu, we shall all miss you very much! No words can adequately describe the richness of the love you radiated. You touched many lives and you will always live on in our hearts.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.“ 2Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
